With the windy and cold weather, Friday 21 October was the perfect night for sharing a raclette in good company at Shifty Chèvre in Fitzroy.
A total of 19 graduates and teachers with less than 3 years experience teaching French had a wonderful evening speaking French, sharing teaching experiences and getting to know each other.
Many commented on how isolated French teachers can be when part of small languages faculties and therefore what a great opportunity it was to be able to meet others new to the profession. It was also a great opportunity for some to express their professional learning needs.
I personally enjoyed the interesting discussions about culture in Quebec, and the many laughs about those somewhat embarrassing moments when having to teach some of those tricky " faux-amis" to students who suddenly develop a keen interest in learning French !
Thank you to the AFTV and all participants for a truly fun evening with delicious winter warming food which made us feel like we were spending an authentic beautiful evening in France !
Here is feedback from one of the participants:
Merci d'avoir organisé la soirée raclette - c'était vraiment super sympa! C'est bien de pouvoir passer du temps avec d'autres nouveaux profs.
