FRENCH Trivia is back AGAIN in 2025!

A night of learning and fun for your Years 9 & 10 French students

Objectives

  • To provide learning opportunities for students to speak French through a meaningful and authentic experience.
  • To encourage and promote the learning of French as an essential part of the school curriculum.
  • To give students an opportunity to interact with other learners of French. To support & encourage retention of students beyond Year 9.
  • To have fun!

Eligibility

  • The Soirée Trivia is open to Year 9 and Year 10 school students.
  • Each school can enter  2 teams of 4 students each. This can either be 2 teams of Year 9s, 2 teams of Year 10s OR 1 team of Year 9 and 1 team of Year 10. Once the entry is lodged with the AFTV, it cannot be altered.
  • Limited places available. The AFTV reserves the right to close entries at any time.
  • No refund.

When you make your payment you will be required to:

  • Provide the names of your participating students
  • Indicate the year level of your students
  • Provide dietary requirements

Soirée Trivia Procedures

General

  • Students must adhere to the evening procedures as stated by the MC.
  • No written notes or access to technology allowed.
  • Teams will be made up of 2 teams from 2 different schools.
  • Students are encouraged to bring something to drink for themselves, as food will be provided as part of the price of registration.
  • 1st and 2nd winning tables will receive prizes. All participants will receive AFTV certificates.
  • A minimum of one staff member per school is required to attend the event and actively supervise their own students. A maximum of 2 teachers per school is permitted. Teachers will be seated at a separate table.

Evening Format

Most questions will be asked in French and will also be provided in spoken and written formats. Six rounds of questions will address the following categories:

  • Geography
  • History
  • Gastronomy
  • Language (Grammar, vocabulary, verbs)
  • General culture (e.g French icons, festivals and celebrations, music, cinema)
  • Francophonie

Games with bonus points to be won will also take place after rounds 2 and 4.

No preparation is required.
